Hello all,
Since I last wrote Ian and I have traveled South overland through Laos, which has involved many bus trips but none have been too bad (with the exception of locals being sick, sometimes in a bag and sometimes not), one sleeper bus had proper lie down beds and we managed to get almost a nights sleep. Our favorite place was staying in the '4000 Islands' area of the Mekong, on the Cambodian border. Where we could travel around by boat and bike, we also went on a day canoe trip where we saw Irrawaddy river dolphins and paddled over to Cambodia for lunch, we were not sure of the legal ramifications for that, but no one seamed to mind!
On the 28th we entered Cambodia officially, which involved 'discussing' the amount of dollars we would pay for various 'taxes'/bribes for getting our passport stamped as we (1)left Laos and (2) entered Cambodia and (3) got a 'health check' as we moved down the row of official huts on the side of the road.
After two days we are now residing within Phnom Penh as of this afternoon. It is a while since we have been in such a big city, so we have been picking up things which we need/have lost etc.Tomorrow will be a day of horrific trips as we visit the Killing Fields and the torture museum, so we shall see how that goes. But we have Palace and Silver pagoda visiting and shopping scheduled for the next day.
Lots of love Kirsty
