We arrived in Cusco and got a taxi to the hotel we had pre booked in Lima, we were both starving so went and got some breakfast and were introduced to the delights of coca tea. Its supposed to be a very good cure for altitude sickness. We have both been blown away by the town, its really beautiful and has a certain romantic charm. Its great to see the ancient Peruvian way of life co excisting with the influx of travellers. Women have fantastic colourful dresses and wear bowler hats ! The town is based around a beautiful cobbled square, full of querky shops and great restaurants which are all really cheap. We went to a great market and bought wolly hats and gloves in preparation for our trek which stats tomorrow morning at 0430 ! Were doing the Salkanaty trek which is supposed to be in many ways better than the Inca trail. Its less busy, goes higher and offers great views down onto Mechu Pichu. We have four nights camping and one in a hostel. We have porters who carry our bags, cook our food and generally look after us. We should hopefully have some amazing pictures to download next weekend.
