Back to India…
Cochin 29th Dec to 2nd Jan
Like I said it was like I never left…as soon as I left the airport terminal I was surrounded by moneymaking Indian’s trying to sell me their taxi, tuk-tuk or a dodgy watch.
Paul and Divya’s wedding was a 2 day affair involving the ushers dressing up in some traditional Kurta’s. This would have been fine but for Paul stitching me up with the sandals which were about 5sizes to big for me! I could have walked on water in those boats!! Only because it was your wedding mate! It was good to see the lads again after such a long time away and after a few hugs and kisses we discussed the next few days events over a few Whisky’s on ice – vey civilized if I may so.
The eve of the wedding and everyone was panicking – I didn’t say so at the time for fear of being executed by one of the family but as I am now the otherside of the world…Screw it!! Haha! As if for punishment of my thoughts I awoke with excruciating pain in my back and neck – I couldn’t lift or turn my head – not good news for an in-demand Usher! And on top of that, Beak (The Best Man) was lying in bed with flu – I think the room was cursed!!
To cure this pain I visited a doctor/masseur in Cochin town. He did a few tests akin to my physio at home – at which point I was optimistic about having my right/left ability back. He sent me into a room with an Indian male masseur. To my astonishment he gave me the tiniest thong I have ever seen! Then another smaller Indian guy came in. One started putting oil in my hair and the other massaged my back. Then I had to lie on my front and they took the thong off! All I was thinking was I have paid 500 Rupees for 2 Indian gays to touch me up! Not happy.
The wedding went without a hitch – 800+ people fighting for some curry (small for an India wedding apparently?) and then we were off for New Year Celebrations! It was a good event where drinks were v cheap! Accordingly I got back on the Old Monk and Cokes – just like the old days…I then realized how much I miss the chaos of India. Top Notch place and I will be back…some day.
