Hello everyone,
Brett and I have spent the last week travelling round the Yasawa Islands of Fiji, a total recluse with barely any connections to the outside world.
We spent the first night on the mainland in Nadi, in the most surreal hostel we'd ever seen. At 4 pounds a night we werent expecting much but we turned up to basically a plot of land with a shack on it, with only one room there and only 3 guests. Thankfully we only stayed a night there and the next six nights were spent on the idyllic islands.
The first island we stayed on was called Nacula island, the northern most island in the archipelago. This was probably the most remote island and we ended up playing football/rugby/volleyball with the local children. we also went to the local village church, a veritable delight of song and dance.
Our favourite island out of all of them was Waya island. We were on true Fiji time there, with the most strenuous activity being moving from the hammocks to the dining hall. On Waya island Brett and I played a 2-on-2 rugby match against two fijians, who were so incredibly fit and quick that we got ripped apart. The nightly activities here were drinking kava with the locals, the national drink of fiji which basically relaxes you and sends you to sleep.
Our last island was beachcomber island, the magaloof of the fiji islands. Although we enjoyed the party, the cultural experience in the other fijian islands was definately what made it a great experience.
Our next and final destination is USA, where we are meeting up with our friend James who has flown all the way across the Atlantic to travel with us.
Til next time x
