After a hassle free Thai/Malaysian border crossing we arrived in Penang for the purpose of getting chest x-rays- a requirement for our Australian work visas. We stayed in Georgetown, a city- with great Indian food, but not a great deal to do (as far as we saw!) It was so built up, that you almost forgot you were on an island- except the ten minute ferry crossing to get there. We arrived in Chiang Mai (in the north of Thailand) at 7 am having had hardly any sleep! We found our way to a cheap guesthouse and slept for most of the morning. The longest bus journeys of our lives... we travelled overnight from Luang Prabang back to Vientiane (12hrs), where we jumped in a tuk tuk straight to the bus station.
