We were headed to Florence when our stomach's told us it was time for lunch. Jeff mentioned he wanted to eat at a proper, non-touristy Italian restaurant. So, Adam picked Orvieto for the location, and I turned on my data for a minute to download restaurant suggestions.
Wow! We hit Orvieto on just the right day. A local festival was in the works, and every residence and business had a flag hanging from their entrance, doorway, or window. There were flowers everywhere, the hydrangeas were in full bloom and beautiful. There were several artisans selling their wares in the piazza.
We had the best meal and best gelato so far in our trip. This is just how I picture most Italian towns. The city center is nestled high on a hill, with narrow walkways and streets, and gorgeous views of the vineyards below. Apparently, Orvieto is well known for some of the best wine in Central Italy.
The weather couldn't have been more perfect for a day in the Italian countryside. Sunny and breezy, the whole thing was like it was out of a movie.
