Our next stop was LA. Stephen braved the drive which was a bit scary at times. We were glad for the sat nav as would have got hopelessly lost otherwise.
We had decided to opt for some luxury for the next 3 nights and booked into the Langham, Pasedena. The hotel was formerly the Ritz Carlton so you get the picture. We drove up its driveway and thought...wow, aren't we a bit out of place here?
We were immediately greeted by the valet who helped us with our bags and then took our car to its home for the next 3 days. Stephen got out his roll of dollars and tipped him.
We walked through doors held open for us by another guy and checked in early. It was all marble and chandeliers opening out into a sunny courtyard. There was a Michelin star restaurant but we didn't eat there as could not identify any of the food it was serving! The place seemed to have an endless number of ball rooms and lounges and it had a fantastic pool set in about 23 acres of gardens.
Our room was lovely and was more like a small suite really. I did have one gripe though which was that the pillows were too soft. However, all I had to do was mention this to housekeeping and I was provided with the perfect pillow.
The gym and spa were amazing too. We were given an orientation as they called it of the facilities and then spent as much time in there as possible. The spa area was fantastic. Dimly lit room with a huge sunken jacuzzi in the centre. It also has a sauna and steam room and lounge chairs where you could just sit and listen to the music whilst enjoying some chilled water with fresh orange slices or maybe work your way through the complimentary fruit bowl! Every day I left the gym I was told to have a delightful day, haha.
We booked ourself on an organised tour of LA as we didn't want to drive around too much in the traffic. We were taken into town by shuttle bus and then joined up with the tour bus. The sights visited included the Hollywood bowl, Hollywood sign, Chinese theatre, Hollywood boulevard, Beverley hills, La Brea tar pits and downtown for the oldest mission in California. Whilst it was good to see the majority of the sights, LA is not really for me. The sign was cool and we liked the famous handprints and the old part of downtown but I thought Beverley Hills and Rodeo drive were too showy really and very pretentious. We didn't see any celebrities either. Still it was another box ticked and we can say we've been there now.
Our last day in LA was centred around Pasedena which is a nice place, a very rich area. The houses around the Langham were amazing. Think mansion and double the size and that's what they were like. Many were built in a Spanish style and I couldn't decide which one to buy so I bought 5!
Whilst in Pasedena we saw numerous ladies who lunch and I also saw my first face lift. The woman had to be in her late 70's but her face was all tight and very Joan Rivers. We also had a few hours by the pool that day...lots of rich kids milling about splashing out on cocktails with their inheritance no doubt. I spent some time laughing at them. One of the girls was called Alexis, I mean really??!
