Hi All
Just a quick one as we're straving and need to go and grab some dinner before everywhere closes!
We're now back in Malaysia after spending a couple of weeks in Sumatra, Indonesia. We had a pretty bad time there as the Founder of the charity we were volunteering for in Banda Aceh turned out to be a bit of a psycho. The first day we were there she couldn't praise us enough and then on the 3rd day we were chucked out without any explanation! This was pretty upsetting as we'd travelled from Thailand for 2 days and a night to get to Banda Aceh...and we had to go back the same route.
With nothing keeping us in Banda Aceh we set off on our journey again but took it slower on the way back (much slower as 3 of our buses managed to break down!
We visited Bukit Lawang which is a remote jungle retreat with an orangutan sanctuary. I (Jake) had been there before which was before the 2003 floodings which killed 280 people. The place had changed dramatically and what was once a thriving tourist town was now very quiet with limited options for food and board.
We had to spend a couple of days in Medan, Indonesia's 3rd largest city and one of the most disgusting places on this planet...we won't be going back!
So we're now in Georgetown, Penang. It's an old British island and has a great colonial vibe here. Most of the buildings are original and beautiful and the food and shopping are good too!
We're off to Bangkok tomorrow morning. After all the long journeys in Sumatra we decided we couldn't face another one and a half days of travelling so we splashed out on flights which only take about 1 1/2 hours...thank god!
That's it for now, we'll let you all know what we get up to back in Thailand
Love

P.S. just completed uploading some photos from Thailand and Sumatra so check them out.
