So as you might know, current form of travelling is a campervan under the name of 'Jim's Brazilians Muff Management'. Interesting i know, but the company we are using, Wicked campervans, are well known for their graffitti and slogans which they decorate all the vans with, so to say we are gettng some attention from it would be an understatement
So the road trip started in Sydney driving straight over the harbour bridge and out of the city. The main aim was to get some distance under out belts so drove till sunset, which brought us to a very wet Taree, and 3 of us sleeping in the van in the highstreet. Tiny town so not a problem, till you wake up surrounded by people going to work amd us in our PJ's in the highstreet! With a few days in the road after our first night we visited a Koala Rescue Hospital, some beautiful beaches, many rest stops and a huge truck driver called Ken.
One of our 'main' stops was Byron Bay. But pri to this and to save ourselves from the tourist trap that it is, we stopped at a place called Lennox Head where we found our usual home of a fully equipped campsite, full of campervan enthuasists and 'wicked' campers travellers insulting and amusing them with our vans. Also it was right next to a tea tree oil lake which was amazing. So bizarre as well, as the water was yellow in the shallow part turning into a deep red, then black when it was relly deep. After this we went to Bryon Bay to see what all the fuss was about, and it was a really chilled out beachy place. Really nice shops and bars, and full of people that have been there too long.
The next day we headed to Surfer Paradise, another haven for the traveller. Here we decided to become kids again and visit the Wet n Wild theme park out of town, one of mant theme parks it seems here. Was great fun, and some of the rides definatelt gave your nerves a run for their money! You have a lot less fear when you are a child me thinks! To add to my adventurous mood, to my delight there was a zorbing park on the way out of town. Seemed rude to pass up the opportunity to roll myself down a huge hill in a giant ball, again. And was pleased to find out it was just as amusing as the first time i did it!
So now our beloved Jim has brought us to Brisbane, which was only a flying visit to give Jim a routine check up. But by the end of the day we had achieved . . . to go to a city beach (very bizarre!)A Beer Bar where you pay a $50 deposit for the glass you drink out of, and ended the night in a Casino. So all in all not bad. Another solid day of driving took us to a place called Rockhampton. On us all deciding we needed a decnt nights sleep on a mattresswe pulled up at a local bar/hotel and sent the boys in, as it was their turn, to see if they had free beds. A few moments later they re-appear with waht can only be described as a 'local', have a conversation with hinm and return to the van. First words from the boys 'Drive!' Not the sort of place we were looking for apparently, full of drunk locals and wierdos, and apparently they were lucky to get out alive. So headed rather quickly in the opposite direction looking for somewhere else, when another guy the same age as us, smartly dressed approached us asking if we need somewhere to stay? Cautious after the last incounter turn out he was the owner of a backpackers which he just locked up for the night, and possibly one of the nhicest guys we have come across on a our travels. So all good in the end!
The delights of Rockhampton, not a place on the tourist trail, took us to a croc farm. I have never in my life seen anything as big as the ones we saw, they were ridiculous. And only a cable fence between us and them at the best of times. So we had the tour, and found out the reasons why some of them were there. You know the usual, had attacked its owner, and killed its zoo keeper ( im really not joking!). So then they ask if you wont to hold one of the baby ones, making sure the mouth was tightly taped, i gave i a cuddle, a very quick one!
So now it is Easter weekend and am currently in Cairns, 4000km from our starting point. Good friday was spent in the jungle on Cape Tribulation, and Easter Sunday was spent hanging myself from a wire in the jungle then been dropped from a great height. Also known as Aj Hackett MinJin Jungle swing. They strap you in, with your 2 partners in crime, in a harness/sleeping bag. Lying flat on your front with you facing forwards, they pull you back and up to you reach the release point in which the choosen one is given the green lighht to pull the release cord to launch you into the swing at 120kmph! So much fun i did it twice!
SO they are my adventures so far, my next one will be driving into Australia's outback to reach Alice Spring and the amazing Ayres Rock. x
