So after leaving Nha Trang and enjoying a lovely 12 hour overnight coach journey I arrived in Hoi An and promised myself that I've give my poor aching liver and kidneys the opportunity to recover. Had a look around the town which is really impressive, it's actually a World Heritage Site, and was attacked by just about every single tailor in town trying to get me to buy a suit. I obviously look incredibly scruffy. Went out that evening still with the thought that having a beer would be an awful idea and that my body needed to recover. In stepped Matt (who I'm starting to think of as my own personal Satan) who twisted my arm and forced me to have "just one" beer. This went down exceptionally well and it only made sense to have another. All of a sudden the first bar was closing (1.00) and then the next bar was closing (3.00) but we weren't finished yet. During our night on the tiles we'd heard viscious rumours of there being a club somewhere - so Myself, Matt, Dears and about 8 Norwegians decided to find this local Mecca. We all jumped 3 on a moped (don't worry they had real drivers not pissed up Europeans) and headed off. About 20km later after passing a number of loacal villages and right out in the sticks we arrived at this nightclub which was closed. Not to worry though the vietnamese moped drivers didn't want to see us disappointed and proceeded to wake up the nightclub owners who opened the bar, started playing some tunes and let us stay until the last people left. I must say it's weird having a whole nightclub between 11 of you knowing you have a 25 minute moped journey home. Needless to say when we arrived back into Sunny (yes Morning had broken) it only made sense to have one final beer on the rooftop terrace of the Norwegians hotel, bully a local into taking us home at 6.30 and then wait for the roadside cafe to open for breakfast baguettes. Excellent night but so much for my body recovering!!
Anyway am now in Hanoi after another marathan 17 hour train journey. Had a bed which was a bit of a luxury but me and the Lads (Matt and Dears) were sharing with an old snoring vietnamese woman who was ill so needed the air-con switched off. It was pretty sweaty and a bit cramped but Hanoi is a cracking city and although I've promised myself some recovery time again have just found out that Bia/Beer Hoi (the local tipple) is 2000 dong a glass. By the way, in case you aren't up to speed with the fascinating world of currency conversions, there are 30000 dong to the pound!! Ouch!
