So welcome to Thailand....
We arrived here on Thursday from KL and had a real nice 3.15 start in order to catch an even nicer AirAsia flight to CM. You really do get what you pay for with those flights... To start with the airport that Air Asia, it is part of Kuala Lumpur Internation Airport, but instead of flying from the nice new modern terminal that the real airlines fly from we had the pleasure of flying through LCCT (the low cost carrier terminal), and i tell you one thing it isn't going to win any awards! It has 4 gates (2 international, 2 domestic) for all of the AirAsia flights in Malaysia, i wouldnt mind 4 gates but the fact there wasn't even any toilets or anything except a table with a few bottles of perfume and bottles of booze when you go through security. Not Impressed....anyway enough of my disgruntled ramblings....
So on our third visit to KL we met up with Emma and Jade (one of Natalies friends and her friend) and had a nice catch up and spent the evening in China towns night market (which at the time was of an amble size and provided a little warm up of the market to come). The next day we had an earlish start to head to the Petronas towers (KL's famous twin towers) in order to queue up for a few ticket up to their skybridge viewing deck. We were expecting to have to queue up and queue up we did, for about 1 1/2 hours. We did leave with plenty of time, however due to a less than confident taxi driver and a loss of translation he got confussed with China town and Petronas towers...... However we managed to get our free ticket at about 10am....but the ticket was for 2.15pm. The next few hours flew by though....we went to Petrosians, the Petronas towers answer to the science museum. IT WAS AWESOME! Despite the fact that a huge oil company put a pretty positive stance on all the uses of said oil it was really good fun and informative, so basicaly i ran round playing with all the displays whilst natalie waited for me! By the time our time came to do the skybridge visit we were pretty savvy on Petronas, however we did have to sit through another [propaganda] video telling us how Petronas have shaped the world,, how good they are and how thankful we should be for all the good work they have done! So after this brainwashing session we got the lift up to the 41st floor and looked out of the window for 15 minutes, which if i'm honest was a bit of a disapointment after the KL tower, but still good fun. Then for our last Petronas inspired activity for the day we headed to the gallery there which was hosting the Sony photo awards 2009 which was very cool!
Before we left KL we also managed to fit in a butterfly park visit and also the national museum (which is possibly the biggest museum i've ever been to) and of course more noodles!
So back to the present and Thailand.... Today we have been flying with gibbons....which is a high wire, zip line, abseiling day of joy. Natalie was a little scared in places (especially after the paragliding episode) but enjoyed it, well all except for when she got stranded halfway between trees on a zip wire when one of the guides didn't manage to catch her! But all in all a brilliant day out in the jungle, with exception of the harnesses which aren't particulary male friendly if you get my gist! We've also done a little bit of temple spotting here, however it was very hot and tough work to drag ourselves around the city in 37 degree heat, but hey at least the humidity isn't quite so high!
I think that Natalie's highlight here tho could be the night market, however i'm not sure if her wallet would be. But in all seriousness it is HUGE and quite an overwhelming place, a very long street full of stalls packed next to each other and also more shops and shopping centres spawning off of the main road, very disorientating, especially as the stalls look very similar and sell the same stuff. But i'm sure you will be pleased with the gits that Miss Wheal will be bringing back with her!
Right enough of this typing malarky, time for a beer and possibly spring rolls
Speak to you soon
