I was desperate to go elephant trekking so we arranged a day trip from Bangkok to The River Kwai. It was a great and fully packed excursion. After an early start and 3 hrs in the minibus we arrived at a little base which seemed to be in the middle of nowhere inbetween the mountains. Here we got to do our elephant trekking. It was quite a scary experience especially as mine and Nurlan's experience of riding animals hasn't been all that successful and still haunted with memories of the mad camel in Inner Mongolia! The elephant was just so high up and I had no idea what I would do if the elephant decided to wander off. An amazing experience though. They are such gentle and intelligent creatures. I got to feed our elephant bananas which was lovely. I'm sure elephants smile!!
Next we went bamboo rafting along The River Kwai which was wonderful. Extremely peaceful and relaxing and very romantic. The raft did have a tendancy to sink though and we got quite wet!
Next we rode on The Death Valley Railway. Quite haunting but some spectacular scenery. We also got to see The Bridge Over the River Kwai and the cemetery for those who tradgically lost their lives there.
