We arrived in Adelaide and it was sunny and bright, we quickly found a campsite as close to the city as we could so that we could walk in to the city easily. Our first stop was Rundle street full of cafes and restaurants we decided to stop and have some lunch. After waking through the shopping centre which had lots of little malls and arcades we stopped for a coffee. We ended up going in to a shop called Adelaide Hatters, which was full of hundreds of different types of hats, we tried on lots and then ended up coming out an Australian style hat each. Wayne's was brown kangaroo leather and mine was beige Suede with a scarf tied around the rim to make it more feminine. Our next stop was the Central Market, where there were so many stalls selling all types of produce, fruit, vegetables, bakeries and continental delis. We loved walking around and were tempted to buy so much. We took off outside on to Gouger Street for a beer before re-entering the market to buy some salami, breads, dips and olives to have for our supper and it was all delicious. We loved the market that much that we even made a trip there the next day to buy some more goodies to feast on. While in Adelaide we visited the Migration museum, which explained how the first free settlers came from all over the world to make Adelaide their home. It explains how the city and surrounding area was settled and how the areas have continued to grow with over 100 different nationalities. It was really interesting and was full of so much information. We also visited the Museum of South Australia which had displays on the areas natural history, wildlife, aboriginal culture and there was even a display of on some of the South Pacific Islands with some great artefacts on show. We also managed to visit the grand State library where we took advantage of the free internet. We walked around the botanic gardens and it was so nice as the sun was shining, the gardens were full of picnicing families, childres parties and even a wedding.

We took a short drive out of the city to Glenelg, Adelaide's seaside town. As it was a nice warm sunny day we decided to relax on the beach for a couple of hours, which was something we had not been able to do for a while. We then visited the Bay Discovery Centre, which focused on the first European discovery of the area, the growth up until the present day. We then found a lovely campsite set right on the beach, as it was late afternoon we took a walk down by the sea and even though it was a lovely day it was fairly deserted which was nice and peaceful.

Our next stop was Port Adelaide famous for it's architecture and the Dolphins that live in the port. We took a short walking tour of the old buildings after getting some information from the Visitor Centre. We then made our way to Maritime museum where we saw ship figureheads, read displays on the Australian Navy, early shipping vessels, migration and the modern day fleets that sail to and from Port Adelaide. As part of the museum entry we also had entry to the Port Adelaide lighthouse which was quite small inside and we managed to make our way to the top in the hope of spotting some of the local dolphins, however they did not make an appearance today.

After leaving Adelaide we decided to head up to the Barrosa Valley, only and hour away from the city and home to some very good wines. We stayed in a small Germanic village called Tanunda, which had some beautiful cottages and churches as well as a traditional Australian pub, complete with a room full of pokies (fruit machines).

Our first stop of the day was Jacobs Creek where we read about the history of the winery and sampled a wide variety of Reds, Whites, Rose and Desert Wines. We ended up coming away with 6 bottles to keep us going! We then decided to take a scenic drive through the valley, it was a lovely sunny day and the views of the fields and vineyards from the hills were lovely. We stopped in another village called Angaston, where we brought some Goats Cheese from the cheese shop and had a coffee in a small cafe. Our next stop on our loop around the valley was Maggie Beers Farm Shop, which sells lots of local produce. We tested lots of the products and brought some Pheasant Pate to go with our Cheese. We decided that we should try and visit another winery so we just picked one at random as we drove past, Chateaux Dorrien. It was a great choice we tried only 2 wines a Verdhelo and a Merlot and purchased a bottle of each.
