Peter and I arrived into Cairns airport from Hamilton Island and it was raining, warm rain, 30 degrees C but rain, the cab driver said it was the Wet season a bit early, it rained all day, we visited the Esplanade, the pier, the sea, It Rained! But with brollies and Cagoules we coped. On Monday we headed off up to see Kuranda by rail, its a railway built in late 1800's up a mountain range - it rained - after a very interesting hour and a half journey we walked from the mountain station into Kuranda village to visit the Rain forest Butterfly sanctuary, a Venomous zoo (Peter did that, I passed!) and we both did the Army Duck Amphibious vehicle tour into the Rain Forest for a fascinating informative hour. Then as the grey clouds lowered we headed down the mountain on the cable car!!!! Its a 40 minute trip 20 feet ABOVE the tree canopy! HIGH isnt the word for it. INTO THE CLOUDS! But what happened next was SCARY!
IT STOPPED! Yes there we are way, way up in the clouds. Me and Mr. Flack alone in a Gondola and we swayed about gently in the breeze for almost 5 minutes! We start, we go forwards for about 10 seconds, stop, go back a couple of yards, stop for a minute ......... then ......... normal service is resumed. Woooooo, not nice at all. But forgetting that hiccup a super day.
Tuesday14th January 7.15am - what is it early mornings???? - we say goodbye to Cairns (and the rain!) And board the Sunlander train to travel the 1000 plus miles to Brisbane, which will take us 30 hours of lovely civilised travel. Silver service, our own cabin, a beautiful restaurant car and a lounge car with bar! This is the life as Agatha Christie prefered. The seafood platter we had for lunch would feed most for a week! An excellent trip.
So Wednesday 15th January we arrive into Roma St station, Brisbane to glorious heavenly wonderful sunshine. Warm and wonderful, as is our accomodation in the Sebel Suites, our home for the next 4 nights, I adore Brissie, its a beautiful city, speak soon. Bye 4 now.
