Day 11, 12, 13: I'm falling far behind in blogging and recalling events & days is difficult!!
On Saturday we took a flight from Chiang rai and immediately took the ferry Koh Phangan. Koh Samui is the second largest island, second to Phuket, and is highly westernized with a WHotel, Ritz, Nikki Beach, etc. So, we didn't want to stay on the island and wanted to immediately get more remote. Koh Phangan has become popular from a giant bash called the Full Moon party which happens monthly and draws a crowd of 25,000+ party animals. The party is next weekend and the party goers will start arriving on the island in a couple of days. Therefore, we make our stay on this island only a couple of days. The night market in Koh Phangan is highly enjoyable and surpases any of the night markets we have been to as of yet. It is busy, but not overly crowded. The street has the breeze coming in off the ocean and there are far less smells of sewage. The food from the street vendors is the best we have come across. We walk the street for dinner picking up chicken satay, some sort of glorious meatball with fresh thai basil leaves attached, fruit juices, and veggies. We probably spent about $6 for both of our dinners.
We spent day 12 enjoying the beach and pool at our hotel. It is the first day we have done nothing and its glorious.
Day 13 we board a ferry boat to Koh Tao where we will start a diving course at 4pm that evening at Sariee Cottage which is on the largest beach on the island.
After our diving course that evening, which is boring required classroom work, we find an amazing Mediterranean/Italian restaurant and have the best Westernized meal. You start to tire of curry and street vendors after a while.
