MATT: Back in Bangkok for the last time before we leave Thailand. It feels like the end of one part of our trip and the start of the next (which of course it is). It has been a fantastic couple of months touring around Thailand but we are ready to move on to the next adventure. We are pretty close to half way through now and I think we are both filled with equal parts sadness that so much of the trip is now over and excitement over what is still to come. However - being back in Bangkok is a lot of fun and an opportunity to see a side of the city that we haven't experienced yet.We are staying back on the Khao San road in the middle of the madness. It is good to be back and have a few days to do it properly. Our first day in Bangkok is spent getting up early and heading up to the Chatachak weekend market - which is the size of a small town made up of stalls selling just about anything you can imagine. It is super busy too…and getting steadily busier all the time we are there…so we eat, do a bit of window shopping, a bit of gift shopping and head back central by sky train and head somewhere a bit cooler with less crowds. We head downtown to Siam Square which is the "upmarket" area and is like stepping back into the modern world. It is full of modern shopping malls, sky scrapers and is where the Thai movers and shakers and ex-pat community shop and hang out. It is quite strange to see so many moneyed Thai kids - dressed to impress with the latest gadgets on show - quite a contrast to the normal Thai lifestyles that we have been experiencing every where else. For the first time in Thailand we feel like scruffy, underdressed, backpacker bums! Bangkok also gives us an opportunity to party a bit city style…which we do until our heads spin…lots of fun. But after a couple of days back in Bangkok it feels good to be heading to the airport and of to the next leg of the trip. Thailand has been a blast - we have seen some great things and had a great time being beach bums and living our lives in the sun. It has been about as far away from our normal lives as it has been possible to get.
