ok to summerise Ayers rock, it was hot, sweaty, full of flies and old people.
we landed in Ayers rock and we though Perth was hot, but it had nothing on Aires rock. it was stupidly hot! i could feel my skin melting. it was about 44'C to 46'C. it was hot. from the worlds smallest airport, we travelled by Air-conned bus Uluru Backpackers, where we slept in the biggest dorm room we had ever seen 30-40 bunk beds in one room. it was loud and smelt funny.
anyway, we had three days to spend in Ayers rock which turned out to be the biggest mistake we could have made. the only entertainment we had were our books and the swimming pool that was so warm it was like getting into a bath. we were so bored infact that we made up a game where one of us went upside down in the pool while the other one had to hit them in the solarplexis and knock the wind out of them. (yes we were very bored!) the night time seemed even worse. they had a band on and they played the same songs over, and over, and over. the old people that were more abundant than grains of sand on a beach seemed to love it and spent all day sunbathing then taking in the western and country music. and we aren't even in the US! we're in Australia!
we got so pissed off that we actually decided to walk to the town centre, where we had to walk over the dessert that was only lit by small lights. this was actually fascinating as we watched loads of insects fighting each other under the lights. we watched these ants kill a moth that accidentally landed in the middle of them then an ant about 1 inch long waltz through and kick seven shades of s*** out of the little ants and other insects.
the second day in we went to Ayers Rock (Uluru) to watch the sunrise at 4am. this turned out s***e as the clouds basically just made it get gradually lighter with no colours. so later on we had planned to climb it, but with our luck the weather was bad and we couldn't. so instead we walked around the base and after we did the 8km trek we went back to the bus to get a free tour of the sights with our bus driver. who took us on a tour around it and took us to certain locations we wouldn't have found by ourselves. we were glad to get back onto the bus as we found out that Ayers rock had the largest population of flys ever. i mean they would follow you everywhere and land on you at every possiblity. they would also try to get into your nose, ears, mouth, eyes they were sooooo bloody annoying.
that night we made our way up to the viewpoint from our dorm to watch the sunset. which turned out better than our sunrise tour (that we payed for!). we watched that go down and take a few pictures. later we went to watch the boring band that played 3 songs over, and over, and over. then went to bed early so we could catch the bus to take us to our flight. really it was so that we didn't have to listen to that band any more.
we got on the plane only to find a bloody fly in between the glass. it was quite amusing to see him trying to get out, then as we took off you saw it get more still each minute, then when it ran out of oxygen i thought it died, but when we landed it was bloody alive again! chuffing flies! anyway we had landed in Cairns with less flies, heat, expensive beer and old people. RESULT!
