A quick update on our whirlwind tour of Athens today before Arcadia heads away, next stop Malta in two days.
Our day started early with a quick breakfast on board before joining an excursion to The Acropolis and The Plaka, must sees in Athens for 'Green' Greece tourists like me.
As it was in Petra, the Acropolis was almost overwhelmed by tourists, making it difficult to stop and admire and appreciate the magnificence of the scene.
So sad to hear of the ongoing battle over the return of statues from the site now on display all over the world. Also sad to see the site in such decay, with a seemingly monumental restoration in progress, one piece at a time.
Two hours later we were thankful to be taken to The Plaka where our appetite for food and shopping were well sated. Nothing quite like eating a local delicacy; did someone say Moussaka? Yes please!
Back on board now I feel relieved to be amongst my fellow cruisers, embracing the sunshine in pastel clothes as opposed to the sea of darkness it felt like we walked amongst in Athens.
Happy to say I'd love to return to see more of Greece again someday. Might need to rethink my walkabout outfits though ...
