Day 30 21/08/11
Sleep in !! Billy didn’t wake till 7.30am……….. Bonus!! All that walking yesterday must have worn him out. We enjoyed Pizza for Breakfast, the Camp Kitchen with Microwave was just across from us. Everyone else tucking into their healthy muesli and I’m heating up Pizza !!! One lady commented on how nice it smelled and no point in it going to waste …….. made me feel at little better! We topped up drinking water in Camper and Fuel in the car and headed back down the Highway. This time next week we’ll be home :( Not much exciting about the landscape along here………. Flat, small bits of shrubbery every now & then and sadly lots of Road Kill. Stopped at Glendambo for lunch, a Shell Service Station & BP Service Station and really not much else. We got Burgers for lunch from the friendly people at the Shell. Looking for a nice rest area to stay a tonight…………….. we found it Lake Hart Rest Area. Lake Hart is a salt lake, we pulled in just before 3pm, set up next to a nice fire place. Tonight we plan to finish the wood that was collected back on Binns Track that has travelled some distance with us! We set up and went down to the waters edge – found remains of what looks to be old railway running into the Lake. I tried to research a little via Google on return but at this point in time only find little on Lake Hart. I am presuming that this area was also used for salt collection before the end of the sixties along with similar areas in SA, including Lakes in the Eyre Peninsula Area. Unusual that there is nothing at the roadside area signs………….. Information on SA outback tracks and the Stuart Hwy trail but nothing on this exact area, maybe further down the highway ?? With the fire started we prepared Pizza’s for the wood stove, yes I know Pizza again but they are so nice homemade in the wood stove and this might be our last chance! Not long after returning to the Camper a train passed on the Railway line below (near the Lake) freight train but this excited Billy and he was waving …….. “Hello Thomas!” Then much to our excitement just after sunset, The Ghan passed us !! ……………… I have been hoping to catch a glimpse since Alice! Settled in the camper not long after 8pm to update the Blog entries ……….. very exciting here! Despite that fact we are 250kms from the next major town, Port Augusta, we have full Telstra service!!
