WHERE VIV'S AT...
Morning everyone
Yep still in Adelaide and getting over England's demise - I mean losing 5-0 on the one-dayers to Sri Lanka (what the bloody hell is going on?). So, what happened in the football??
Anyway for a complete change, it's been a busy last few drunken days. On Thursday "Conan the Winebarian" (aka Chris) showed up from Melbourne and then proceeded to get Jen and I pissed on numerous bottles of wine. In fact, Darcy had pre-empted her appearance and let's just say he got Jenny's side of the bed ready for her collapse (but we got him back...).
Friday with really evil hangovers we hit the road and followed the path of Australia's largest river - The Murrey - down to the Flueriu Peninsula. This is a really pretty part of SA and has countryside that so resembles England (not to mention the same cows) that I felt whist in my drunken state I'd actually gone home by mistake. In fact, we felt so bad we actually passed by a few wineries (yep literally passed them by) and at 9pm that night we were all fast asleep. Saturday was a peaceful day I wanted to be alert and awake for the big match the next morning - yep my first AFL experience, The Adelaide Crows v Geelong (the Cats).
So, AFL well Jenny and Darcy explained the rules - basically they have 4 quarters not 2 halves, they kick the ball, they throw the ball, they catch the ball, they do a kind of windmill dance to stop the opponent from throwing the ball and they score lots of points between 4 posts. But hey!! Who's interested in the rules of the game when you've got around 40 young, very very fit men running around a big field in skin-tight shorts and little t-shirts (not me that's for sure). So, after my pulse went back to normal, we hit the Crow's Shed which funnily enough is a big shed (and almost as big as Darcy's new garden shed) where all the crowd and players go back after the game for wine, beer and post-match analysis, oh and the chance to get a photo with a player or two (it had to be done).
Well, today is my last full day here in Adelaide (boo!!!) and I'll be saying bye to Jen and Darcy in the morning and that's going to be tough as they've been complete stars whilst I've been here and really made me feel welcome. In fact, I'm really, really sad to say it's my last day in Oz too. However I'll certainly be back at some stage in my life as, for me, this country has to be the best place on the planet and has provided me with more fantastic memories than I can ever hope to store in my tiny brain (I truly love this place).
Tomorrow? Well I make my way east and then north - I'm heading for the summer.
