WHERE VIV'S AT...
Hi
well I came to Cape Trib this am and here for a few days. I think on my last postcard I described it as jungle meets sea - wrong it really is Rain Forrest meets Reef - That's the Daintree Rain Forest and the Great Barrier Reef and it's the only place in the world where two natural heritage sites meet each other (pretty amazing eh?).
I'm here for a couple of nights and doing my Great Barrier Reef trip from here tomorrow then leave lunch time Tuesday for Port Douglas and on the way going via Mossaman Gorge for some more natural beauty. Oh and this am went down the Daintree River in search of crocs but they were all hiding as it's their mating season and also too hot for them now - oh well might catch sight of one soon. Also on look out for very rare bird - can't remember the name just now but it's a big bird with a hammer on it's head.
Staying at a really great place here - it's called The Beach House because it's on the beach but the cabins and restaurant/bar are all in the rainforest - I really am experiencing the best of both worlds. I'm obviously doing dorm living and this is the first time I've done the mixed dorm. My room has 5 beds (I nabbed the single non-bunk bed) and there's four of us in the room at present that's me and 3 guys - I've had lunch with 2 of them and seem really nice, Chris is from Northern Ireland and Alex is from Germany. They've both gone on a nine k walk this pm, and I've just lazed by the pool as knackered from last night and due to stinger season you can't swim in the sea at all in Queensland at present until you get past Brisbane or the beach has stinger nets (a real pain as that sea looks lovely).
Last night?? Well Kirstan and I found this really good bar and stayed for quite a while then hit a gay club until the early hours of the morning - and with a 7.30 pick up for me this am I was feeling a bit rough to say the least. Anyway I've left Kirstan in Cairns checking out transport for our drive down the east coast. We've found an ad for a car buy for A$ 1000 and price includes an 8-man tent, matress, cooking equipment and best of all a boogie board. Kirstan is going to see if it's still for sale and then if so we'll start on Thursday, if not she's going to be a busy girl but hopefully we'll get something sorted as neither of us want to bus and stay in hostels for the next couple of weeks.
Will have some photos up here soon - prob when I get to Port Douglas.
Over and out
