Buenos dias people - today I am one very very happy lady as it´s been confirmed that I have my ticket for Glasto (Patrick I owe you a very very big drink). It´s going to be the best ending for my extremely long holiday.
Talking of which... Buenos Aires was fantastic. This city is so European in feel and style and you could quite as easily be in Paris or Barcelona or Madrid. Basically BA is huge but split up into lots of Barios (districts). And after our excessives of last weekend we did actually get out and see some suff including the Recoleta Cemetry which has a famous resident by the name of Eva Peron - a small grave but easy to find as the one with the crowds including a yank who whilst standing looking at the gravestone asked who she was and only understood once Madonna was mentioned by her partner (good grief...). We also visted the oldest bar in the Bario of San Telmo and watched locals dance the tango in Plaza Dorrego, we visted the Bario of Palmero (but lets just say this area is where all the bars are), went to see some very passionate and sexy tango dancing in a club where we also had dinner, and we had great food in Puerto Madero which is also home to BA´s most famous nightclub the collapsed Sydney Opera House which we decided not to visit after checking out the cheezy clientle. Yes BA is a great city and considering its charm and the cheap price of everything (i.e. great value restaurants, trendy bars and lots of shops) I would agree that at the moment this is probably one of the world´s best cities to be in.
Anyway BA is where I said goodbye to Jon (boo!!) and hello to my tour group. Must say it feels really odd to now be travelling with 16 people rather than one but they seem a good bunch (mind you we do have a couple of odd bods - but lets say that makes the group interesting) and considering 70% are British I´ll let you guess the most popular pastime. We left the city on Friday and then had an ardous 28 hour bus jouney and we seemed to have ended up in Queenstown, New Zealand (although two Austrians in our group are convinced they´ve come home). However we´ve been told we´re in Bariloche in the Argentian lake district and I suppose I should believe my tour guide but honestly this place is so far removed from what you imagine Sth Am to be it´s hard to remember you´re travelling in this part of the world. Let´s just say Bariloche is a small town on the edge of a great lake with huge snow-topped mountains dwalfing it. The days are warm and sunny, the nights are bloody cold. The town is full of chocolate shops, Álpine cabin-style buildings, cafes, tourists and outdoor clothing shops (and Lanceman it even has the same miniture version of the windey high road that was in San Fran - very amused to find that in this place) but I do like it here. Got a couple of days in this little town, so tomorrow I´m going to get out on the lakes in a kayak (tour booked) to get some much needed exercise. Then it´s going to be bye bye Argentina as we make our way into Chile and then I think I´m going to be racing it up the West Coast in record time.
I´m going to try and upload some photos now so I´ll sign out and let you all get back to work (ha ha).
Missing you all so remember to keep in touch.
