Well we are back from another wasted trip to see the cricket, we set out on Sunday morning and by the time we arrived at Leeds railway station it was all over, at least this time Australia won.
So we had a couple of free days in Leeds to explore. The first day we walked into Leeds (took about half an hour) and roamed around, some very old places. The following day we caught the bus up to Kirkstall Abbey and Museum, it was drizzling rain when we left but by the time we had done it all the sun was out so it was a nice day.
On Wednesday we caught the train up to York, we stayed at the Royal York which was right beside the railway station, so after checking in we walked into the town and had a roam around, very easy to get lost here as it is a rabbit warren of streets.
On Thursday we had booked our Steam Train ride to Scarborough which was very nice, when we arrived we walked down the hill to the seaside and had a bit of lunch, brought Fairy Floss and played a game of Bingo, brought back memories !!! then of course we had to walk back up the hill to the station, it was a lovely day.
On Friday we bought a ticket on the tourist bus and it took about an hour to do the circuit then we got off at York Minster, what a magnificent place but the line was very long so gave the tour the miss. David had picked up a tummy bug from somewhere so we had to keep close to the loo's so we headed back to the hotel.
On Saturday as David was feeling a little better we hopped on the Bus again and got off at Cliffords Tower and the museum but again the line's were very long (it is school holidays!!) so we got back on the Bus and went to the Railway Museum which was very interesting, saw "The Flying Scotdman" and "The Mallard", had a bit of lunch and back to the hotel for a break.
Sunday we were off back to Letchworth, so here we are, caught up with the washing and sorting out what we are going to do for the last few weeks we are here, the homeward stretch of our journey.....although I must say it will be nice to come home. It has been amazing and we both want to come back again.....
