Day 42 Quebec to Montreal.
We left a cold, rainy and cloudy Quebec heading for what the weather report predicted - a sunny, warm Montreal.
Once out of the city we once again opted for a less hectic road the 138. This route, for the most part, runs along the St Lawrence River. There is a lot of rural properties and small townships along the road. Many of the small towns were very long with the majority of houses built along the main street backing straight onto farm land.
We stopped for a coffee and muffin in a little diner in the city of Trois Riviere. It is across the road from a PFK - Poulet Frit Kentucky (see photos if your French is not good). The diner was quite popular with a number of locals having lunch. They appeared to has a set 3 course lunch costing C$7.95 + tax and tips. (You must remember the GST as prices are net of GST). From memory you received a soup, salad and desert plus coffee.
Continuing on, we reached Montreal and headed straight to the Sheraton to collect the 3 coats we had left behind on our earlier visit. The staff were all very helpful and we were back on the road again. The GPS said we should arrive at our lodgings in 34 minutes. However, with peak hour traffic it was over an hour before we arrived.
Daniel, our host, was waiting for us (we are in one of two apartments on the second floor and Daniel lives in the apartment on the first floor). Daniel took us through the apartment showing us how to work various appliances as well as showing us some of the grocery items available for our use. Not only were there items left over from previous residents (oil, seasonings, flour, rice to name a few) but the fresh supplies Daniel had stocked up - milk, bananas, plums, mandarins, French pastries and coffee pods.
We then headed out to a shopping centre to purchase another suitcase (this had been our plan as we left with bags packed to the brim). We were in luck as Sears had a sale on Samsonite suitcases. Regardless of size they were all $99 plus tax. We purchased one similar in size to what we already owned, normally priced at $359.
Heading home, we had dinner while watching one of the new release shows. With summer holidays over all, the new shows and season premiers start back this week.
