Day 35 Toronto
Catching a cable car (tram) into town we walked up to Dundas Square (a copy of New York's Time Square) where we purchased tickets for the hop on hop off sightseeing bus.
The bus passes Casa Lomas (a castle built by a wealthy business man who died penniless due to the government taking over his business and not paying any restitution), Bata Shoe Museum, Chinatown, CN tower and the Harbour centre before we alighted at St Lawrence Markets.
Lots of lovely fresh foods available here. We purchased some cheese and some fresh nuts for night time nibbles.
We then walked onto the Distillery District. This use to be where several companies distilled various drinks. Today it is an upmarket, arty shopping and restaurant precinct in the old buildings.
Back tracking we headed to the harbour centre for the boat cruise around some of Toronto's islands. The cruise was quite pleasant. The islands we saw had large grassy areas which were being used for picnics outdoor activities. After the cruise we headed for CN Tower. On the way we came across an old railway round house with several old trains. The Steam Whistle Brewery has taken up residence in part of the round house. We were too late for a tour of the brewery but were able to partake of a sample of their wares.
Next to CN Towers. The elevator takes you up 147 stories to the observation deck where you can look out in all directions over Toronto and surrounding areas. Inside there is the glass floor that allows you to look directly down. Vince walked out on the glass, no problems. Margaret stayed close to the edge and did not look down.
Back on terraferma, we had a quick walk around the area. Next to CN tower is Rogers Stadium, home of the Toronto Blue Jays baseball team. We discovered a sea of blue and white as a game was on that evening. Watching the crowds filter into the area while scalpers walked up and down trying to sell tickets, we waited for the sightseeing bus. This was the last bus for the day so we headed back to Dundas Square and we took the cable car home.
