Day 16 Prince George to Lillooet
Up early we were on the road by 8:30am after a quick breakfast, goodbyes and fuelling the car. Today we were heading south to Lillooet. Lillooet is a small town north east of Whistler. From what we could gather it was a mining town. However, we are getting ahead of ourselves as we had the drive first. We were travelling just over 500kms or approx. 6 hours today, heading mainly south.
The drive was again on a secondary road. However, the road condition was quite good with minimal traffic. Again there were only major two towns on our route (Quesnel and Williams Lake). We did not pass through any parks on this drive. The country side was mainly covered in fir trees. However, there was some farming activity, mainly the mowing and baling of grass. We were driving on route 97 (Cariboo highway - no Cariboo sighted!) and then on to route 99 for the last leg.
After approx. 5 hours driving we stopped at a small place called Clinton. We had arrived at the highlight of our trip that day (Good coffee!). Mel had told us that that there was a small coffee shop in Clinton that had great coffee. We were not disappointed. After a great coffee, a yummy banana muffin and a stretch of the legs we continued our journey to Lillooet. We arrived around in town around 4pm and checked in to a local motel. As the weather was quite warm we stayed in the room catching up on things (converting more AUD to CAD to continue our trip, working out what else we had to do, etc).
Around 5pm we decided that it was safe to venture out to meet the locals. Temperature was still in the high 20s. After walking the town (approx. 10mins as Main Street is a rather long road), we dropped into a pub for some dinner. After the meal we headed back to the motel. We noticed they were setting up an outdoors cinema in the local park and most of the locals were heading out. Given sunset is around 8:30pm it would be either a late night of short movie for them.
We went to bed quite early (8:30pm) after deciding on an early start for tomorrow. ( Photos for this album are all courtesy of Marg's iPhone mostly through the car window)
