The road followed an ancient route once used by the Lugurians & the Iberians, & it ran from Beaucaire (by Nimes in the Gard) to Le Perthus (the Pyrennees), forming a route between Rome & Spain. It had milestones (the columns on the right) that marked every Roman mile, as well as staging posts.
