1.4 million deaths & lost soldiers, hundreds of invalids, 700,000 widows, & 1.5 million orphans made WWI a very costly war for France. Paul Van Hindenburg, the German military strategist, went on to become the president of the Reichtag. He named Adolph Hitler chancellor on January 30, 1933.
