Born in 1513 outside Edinburgh, he was ordained as a Roman Catholic priest, but embraced Calvin's new ideas of reforming religion. He was a very accomplished speaker, & gave many sermons at St. Giles Cathedral, as well as all over Scotland (including St. Andrews). He also got involved in politics, being one of the main figure behind the abdication of Mary Queen of Scots.
