The Knights were Christian warriors of noble birth whose main goal was to kill their Muslim enemies. The Muslims' goal was to rid the world of the Christian infidels. The big clash came in the Great Siege of 1565. 40,000 Muslim troops were eventually defeated by a mere 30,000 Christian soldiers after a siege of 3 months. The Knights were tolerated but not loved by all the Maltese.
