This altar was built by King Eumenes II, in the ancient Acropolis of the city of Pergamon. Its walls contained a frieze depicting the "Gigantomachy", the battle of the gods vs the Giants. The Gods won (of course)! This is the first thing you see upon entering the exhibits at the Pergamon.
