I didn't sleep that great last night, I was either waking up because I thought I was going fall out of the bunk, or I was freezing cold, or I was roasting hot!!! So basically it was a weird one. I was super glad I had my sleeping bag, as I don't know what I'd have done without it... maybe slept standing up, it really was that disgusting.
The train was meant to get into Danang at 9.30am, but as we have been told trains in Vietnam are never on time. Charles told us that one group didn't get off the train until 4.30 in the afternoon. We were lucky and it was 'only' 2 hours late. Luckily enough I had days of my blog to catch up on, so it actually suited me quite fine even if it was an absolute disgusting environment and going to the toilet this morning was worse that some of the Africa toilet experiences! Not a pleasant experience to say the least. We then got a bus to take us to Hoi An and we reached our hotel at 12.30pm, this is where we were going to be staying for 2 nights.
Charles knew of a local man, who apparently does your washing for only 90p/kg and it comes back immaculate and pressed, so of course I emptied my rucksack and gave him all my clothes basically. We will see what it comes back like tomorrow...! We met at 1pm and headed straight out to this local restaurant for lunch, one of the local delicacies was grilled fish in banana leaf with lemon sauce, so basically we all tired it. Hoi An is the culinary capital of Vietnam and this dish explained why, it was absolutely delicious.
There is so much to do here in Hoi An, and it's a pitty we only had a day and a half here. It is also full of tailor shops, every single street is just full of them. We tried to find shops just to buy beach dresses this afternoon and it was actually impossible. Anyways Charles took us to the Tailor Shop he recommended and it was huge, basically they would make anything you wanted if you had a picture or a magazine cutting, and there were rows and rows of material. I even found the exact material my purple dress from last year was made out of. I had in my head, I would get a dress made for the Spring Fling as I would be totally skint by the time I'm home but I couldn't find anything in this shop for ideas. Lauren and Nikki came with me and we found a shop a couple doors up that had loads of ideas. Needless to say I tried on about 5 dresses and with Lauren and Nikki's help, ended up getting measured for 2. One knee length and one full length, both chiffon though. Deciding on the colour was the next problem so I have went for purple and blue, time will tell tomorrow what they're like. I have two fittings one after lunch and the other in the evening if further alterations need to be made.
I was super chuffed after that. Hoi An is an amazing small village situated on the river side, it has an old part that no motorbikes or cars can travel in so it's amazing to walk about and not be ran over. Only pedal bikes are allowed in the old part, which makes it really peaceful since there's no horns being peeped everywhere. Lauren, Nikki and I then continued to walk around taking in the sights and shop :) It was a lovely afternoon and I managed to get new sandals and a couple beach dresses in the market. We were absolutely exhausted though, and didn't get back to the hotel unit 6.30pm. It had been a long day as we hadn't showered after our train ordeal nor did we have a good sleep. I was sharing with Nikki for the next two nights and Lauren had her own room so it was nice.
We then had a group tea and met at 8pm, I could have easily been doing with having an early night but hey it's a social tour I suppose. We went to a restaurant along the river side which only had Vietnamese, I had the stuffed squid with pork and rice and it was really tasty. Three of the people that left the tour when I joined were also in Hoi An just now, so they joined us for tea as well which was good. I was absolutely shattered and we seemed to sit for hours after we had our food, eventually we got to pay and most people headed out for drinks but I went back to the hotel with Nikki, Lauren and Jordan. As soon as my head hit the pillow I was out.
I can totally see why Hoi An is everyone's favourite place in Vietnam, it's really quirky and so pretty down by the river with all the boats. I want to stay longer!!!!!!!! :( hehe. xxx
