We left Kangaroo Island today heading towards Robe via Victor Harbour and the wine-growing region of Langhorne Creek. The drive was mainly through cattle and sheep country interspersed with vineyards. We stopped at about 3 cellar doors along the wine route. Roadkill count: a record-breaking 79!!!! Fortunately, we saw more live animals than dead today. First stop: Koala Walk - an animal sanctuary where the animals are not kept in cages and have freedom to roam. The $5 entry fee was well worth it as we spotted several Galah birds, were followed by a very weird looking bird (like a cross between a goose and a hawk) and came into close proximity with 6 koalas! That was definitely one of the highlights of the morning. ...

Roadkill count: 38 dead animals - the South Coast road should be renamed Death Alley! Our 9:00am ferry ride meant we arrived on Kangaroo Island with plenty of time to explore. We took a detour on a dirt road to the Eucalyptus Ridge distillery. From there we drove to Seal Bay where we were able to go on a "self-guided tour" of the seal colony for a mere $12!
