Hello from Nazca! Since Cusco we`ve moved around quite a lot. We went to Ica, an average little town, it was a bit smoggy but we were only there to go to Huacachina to do some sandboarding.
Huacachina is a little town around a lagoon in the middle of desert sand dunes, very chilled out. We went out on a crazy sand buggie ride and got boards to go down the dunes. The first 3 were medium sized, we did them twice and by the second time we managed to stand up quite well.
After that we went to 3 massive dunes, I decided going down on my bum on the board might be better. I was very wrong, it was so fast and I fell off onto my head, not great. Sean thought I`d broken my neck but I just had a couple of bruises and a lot of sand it my ears so I got up and carried on. The next dune I tried on my stomach but I screamed as it got faster and got a mouth full of sand. On the last dune I went back to the feet option and managed to stand up the whole way down, I was sandy but proud to have made it to the end! Sean did all of the dunes on his feet, much more sensible, he was pretty good at it and only had a couple of tumbles.
After that we went to Pisco and got a boat out to the Ballestas islands to see some wildlife. The rocky islands were red originally until millions of birds decided to live there and produce a lot of guarno. We saw lots of penguins, pelicans and sea lions lying on the rocks.
Yesterday we came to Nazca and we flew over the famous geoglyph lines this morning. The plane was very tiny and banked right and left so we could see the lines, it was an amazing flight, a bit tummy turning but very interesting to see the crazy animal drawings.
Tonight we`re getting the 1am bus to Arequipa, I`ll let you know what we get up to there....
Love Vicky xxx
PS There are a few more salt flat photos on here now if you have time to look! x
