Hello from Copacabana on Lake Titicaca. We don`t have much time before the inca trail but we thought we'd stop at the lake for a couple of days. It`s a nice change after the hussle and bussle of La Paz as it feels like a small seaside town.
On our first day we looked around the big moorish church and then climbed up a steep hill on the edge of the town for a view of the lake. The climb was quite tough, although older locals seemed to find it ok, I`m blaming the altitude! The view from the top was lovely, it looks more like the sea than a lake as it`s so big! We watched the sunset and then climbed carefully down in the dark.
There are no photos from the second day as Sean got really bad food poisoning that night, it was horrible to see him so ill. Luckily he had a day to rest before we had to move on to Peru.
The trip to Peru was a bit of a nightmare, we`d booked a ticket all the way to Cuzco which started with a cab to the boarder. He was meant to put us on a bus but when we came out of immigration the cab had gone. Guards were trying to move us on and there were no buses for 4 hours so we got in a motorbike rickshaw to a random place where he said we could get a collectivo, a local minibus.
The first one was packed, I think there could even have been some chickens on there, but we got a seat on one eventually. After a couple of hours we got to Puno in Peru but our bus had already gone. We persuaded them to let us on a bus a couple of hours later but it wasn`t a good sign when the driver stopped to pour petrol in through a funnel and then again to add hydraulic fluid...we made it to Cuzco at 1 in the morning after starting our journey at 10 but at least we had a nice hostel booked and we could go straight to bed!
Love Vic xx
