We stayed in a hostel near the obelisco and on our first night we saw tango in the streets just round the corner. We spent a morning wandering round the posh cemetry where Eva Peron is buried. All of the crypts are very ornate. Sean was happy to find a tardis shaped one and lots of statues with impressive facial hair! We wandered round an art gallery and the zoo then up through Palermo, a district of restaurants and bars.
The next day we finally sent post home and then walked around a faulklands war exhibition as it is 25 years since the war. It was obviously very anti British, even the English captions had American flags next to them. We wandered along the docklands-like riverfront, Puerto Moderno and had posh coffee. That evening we went to a tango show in San Telmo. We had lots of champagne, a 3 course dinner and the show was really nice, we had a really good night.
We spent a day in Caminito in La Boca, the poorest but most colourful area. It was a shame it was raining as there are usually more art stalls but it was good to see it. That night we went to a big club called opera bay on the river with an Aussie couple we met. There were 3 rooms, one is half open air with a great view of the river. The hip hop room and dance rooms were good but the cheese room impressed everyone. I never expected the most hip club in town to play bebobaloobub she`s my baby! We got in at 7am and then had to get up at 10 for the football, that was a bit of a struggle!
The football match was Boca vs River, a huge local derby with 2 of the best teams in the world. The coach picked us up 5 hours before the game because they were worried about crowd violence. We queued for 3 hours and then got into a big crush heading towards the turnstiles. The River Plate team arrived just as we were near the front and it all kicked off. Locals were covering their faces and charging the gates, we got completely trampled. It was scary but we got through eventually. The start of the game was amazing with coloured smoke and streamers, and so much jumping the whole stand shook. It was an amazing atmosphere. The next day we headed Northwest to Rosario...Love Vicky x
