After few days in Sydney we started our 3 month Asia tour. First stop Singapore. We arrived there at 10 pm and even at this hour were greeted by humidity and heat.

After a long sleep we were off to explore what Singapore had to offer. First we just wandered around the streets near the hotel and stumbled across a lovely food court which offered Chinese, Thai, Korean dishes, as well as a variety of pig innards dishes and our favourite - fruit stall which apart from well known fruit, offered for our palate more exotic dragon fruit, Chinese pear and many more. Wherever we went, there were always countless eating possibilities and not only Asian food. Singapore is full of fast food chains, coffee houses and bizarrely Toast cafes which seemed very popular!

We explored countless shopping malls on Orchard Road, which were all nicely air conditioned and offered much needed breaks from the relentless heat. Next we had a wander around the China Town which had some very beautiful temples and then walked to Little India which certainly lived up to its name with all the hustle and bustle.

On our second day, we walked to the famous Raffles Hotel which undeniably was a very impressive building and full of grandeur. After that we headed down to the beautiful and historic Boat Quay which housed a statue of the Singapore's symbol - Merlion (part lion, part fish!). In the evening we took a long MRT and bus journey to Singapore Zoo where we went on the Night Safari which unfortunately proved to be very depressing. The zoo was designed only with tourists in mind, the needs of the animals were completely ignored - the animals were in confined spaces with lights staring above them so that they always would be visible to the visitors. The scary thing was that so many people seemed to be enjoying themselves in this very sad place.

Our 3rd day in Singapore rained in but luckily it cleared up in the afternoon so that we still could do our planned trip to Sentosa - a small island to the south of Singapore. Despite the fact that Sentosa is one big building site (as the development of the resort town is in a full swing) we had a very enjoyable time there. As our time was limited, we ignored the obvious tourist attractions, like the Underwater World and the Dolphin Lagoon, and went to explore Fort Siloso. Fort Siloso was the last bastion of the British during World War II and it was definitely very interesting and educating to explore the many bunkers, underground passageways and cannons. Though we must admit that we gave in to one tacky tourist attraction and took the lift up the giant Merlion statue recently built on the island J.
