We have arrived in Thailand!! Very exciting, though sad to have left NZ because I absolutely loved it!We arrived midnight last night and took a taxi through the torrential rain to our hotel, and went straight to bed!Today we've been a bit 'Buddhad' out! But had a good day none the least! We had a pretty early start but it was ok, there were 2 other girls on our tour called Kim and Lucy. We started out by getting a longboat onto the river Chao Phraya, it was quite bumpy, but we thankfully turned onto the canal - Thonburi - and it was so quiet and peaceful and we got to see the homes of the river dwellers, the streets were literally all water and accesibly only by boat! Sometimes you would get a huge beautiful house and right next to it there would be a crumbling wooden shack. We encountered some women on small boats piled high with souvenirs, which we all declined. After the journey through the canals we came back out onto the river and stopped at Wat Awn (temple of dawn) a beautiful stone temple, with glass patterning all over, made from bowls from China. We had to climb some very steep steps to reach the top but you could see out over the river and parts of Bangkok. We visited 3 more temples, Wat Traimit - where we saw a 3m hugh golden Buddha, 5 tons of solid gold! Wat Pho was next where we saw the reclining Buddha, which is 46cm long! The largest in Thailand. Finally Wat Benchamabophit, which is a relarivet new temple made from Carrara Marble. All the temples were beautiful with stunning statues, designs, patterns and colours.. And a lot of Buddhas! We were also blessed by a monk at one of them and given a good luck band.We 4 then went to the infamous Khao San Road. I enjoyed it for about 10mins and then I got sick of it, the heat the people and people pestering you! We got some lunch and then went and chilled by the pool. Tomorrows plan is to stay by the pool all day! Meeting Arthur's friend Rowan later, when he arrives in Bangkok.
