Had another pretty amazing day today, even more spectacular views of stunning lakes and mountains! I'm really glad we've come at the time of year that we have, because some (not all) of the mountains have snow on them, and just at the peaks, how you imagine a mountain to be so am getting amazing photos! We stopped off at Lake Matheson (pretty early 8am) and it was beautiful, a 20 minute walk through the forest to get to the viewing points and when you get there it's just so pretty. The lake is as smooth as glass, and has a perfect reflection of Mount Cook (tallest mountain in NZ) and Mount Tasman (2nd) it was just stunning, I could have sat there for hours. As we walked back there was lots of mist rising amongst the trees and mountains, and it was so beautiful, and really calm, so got some really good pictures! It had that crisp morning feel. We then had a few stops at some waterfalls. The first called Thunder Creek, where there were hundreds of rocks - all ideal for skimming, so you can imagine how much fun the boys all had! (I failed epically!) The water was also the beautiful turquoise that you get from glaciers, but extremely cold! We then made our way to Raging Billy falls, where we saw an optical illusion, if you stared at the bottom of the waterfall for 60 seconds and then to the rock to the left, it looked as if the rock was moving upwards! We finally stopped at Lake Hawea, 2nd largest lake in NZ (or something lilke that!) which was again beautiful and turquoise. Wanaka is a nice little town, quite quiet, but I could easily live here, with all this amazing scenery to wake up to everyday it's incredible. We went to the cute little cinema this evening to watch Pirates of the Caribbean 4, with a few other people from the hostel. There were sofas to sit in and we got hot chocolates at the interval. The film was ok, but a shame only Jack was in it! As it was one of the Welsh girls's birthdays that evening we went to the bar for some drinks which was nice. Didn't stay out too late though as so tired!
