Hervey Bay and Fraser Island 21st February - 24th February
I arrived in Hervey Bay, got picked up from the bus station by the hostel. I met three girls on the hostel shuttle bus: Sarah and Zoe, from England and Vren from Canada. Sarah, Zoe and I were on the same Fraser island tour. We checked in and went straight to the Fraser Island meeting as we were leaving on the tour the next day. We had a group of 7 people, Sarah, Zoe, Dan, Mike, Pascal, Sarah and I. We went to the supermarket to get our food for the three days and then Zoe, Sarah and I headed to the local pub to get some dinner. I then packed my stuff and got some sleep.
The next day we headed to Fraser Island, the weather was not very good but our group seemed really great so there was no need to worry about the weather. I drove first on the roads and had to reverse on to the ferry (we all know how much I hate reverse). We then did some touring of the island before getting to the campsite around 4pm. We got to the tents to find out that they were flooded, this meat that we got an instant upgrade to the dorm rooms - which was nice as I did not fancy sleeping out in a tent in a thunder storm. That evening our group had a massive BBQ and played ring of fire.
The next morning was a hungover early start. We headed to explore the island more with our first stop at s sand blow hole. Fraser island is the only place in the world where rainforest grows on sand our guide told us about the formation as well as many local stories about the area. The island was really nice although it would have been better if the weather was good. That evening we arrived back at the camp to meet another group who had arrived. We had dinner and began to play so more drinking games. After passing out around 3am I woke up at 7 to do our last part of the island before heading back to the main land. I went to brush my teeth and have a shower, on the way back there was lots of shouting our guide for the trip, Peter, had the other groups guide in a headlock on the floor. They were fighting because our group ate the other groups fruit loops. Sounds crazy. They kept fighting for over an hour it was really scary. And not a great end of our tour on fraser island. We arrived back to the office and all had to write statements about what happened - it was very odd but now kinda funny.
