26th - 27th January 2012
We had the morning in Greymouth, where Nat and I went on a good 45mins run, then we headed to the supermarket with Mark and Carly before heading back on the bus to Franz Josef. We arrived late afternoon and went in the Jacuzzi before heading to the bar for some dinner and then to the bar, and competing in a limbo competition, Dylan managed to get into the final, although lots due to rick paper scissors and the end to come second. I finally went to bed around 1am, which was silly, as I had to be up at 7am to go on a glacier hike. I woke up tired and hung-over not ready for another day of hiking but I had paid for it so I had to go. We got all our equipment and I got medical cleared (stupid knee causing me hassle again). The first hour and half of the hike through the rainforest was nice we had ok weather but after that the weather turned horrible to the normal rain you would expect on a glacier - after all the glacier would not be there if there was not any rain. My knee was fine on the glacier considering they scared me about it being difficult but personally I found the Tongoriro crossing hard (maybe due to the weather conditions but still). I spent the day with Eva and Susan it was great fun. I got back around 5pm to meet Nat and Carly to head to the hot springs - which was a nice end to a cold and wet day. That evening was back to the bar for dinner followed by a few drinks then bed for a goodnights sleep ready to hit Queenstown.
