We left 108 mile house and headed for Whistler. This is a town which was built for the Olympics about 40 years ago. Nice hotel as always. Whistler is like being in an outdoor shopping mall. Lots of pedestrian areas with Outdoor shops. The bars are full of Yoof in wooly hats and sunglasses with their mountain bikes parked outside, We had a walk round and decided if you wanted a full on outdoor holiday this was the place. We had dinner and went back to our hotel !...

Leaving Clearwater we headed for 108 Mile House.....I know, funny name for a place. Our next stop over was the Hill House ranch. It's a working ranch of about 20,000 acres which doubles up as a health farm. In the winter it caters to nordic skiers and in the summer to hiker and horse riders. We left Jasper for what we thought would be a 6 hour drive. As luck had it the book was wrong and it was only 4 hours. The clocks went back along the way. Never experienced that before, a sign on the roadside saying put your watch back. We drove along highway 5 which as usual was nearly empty. Had a bit of a lazy day today. Jasper is not huge and is geared to skiers and summer hikers. We had a nose around, and had lunch in the park. We could see the railway track whie having lunch. A train went through that had no end !!! It had 3 engines pulling it and 300 + containers on the back. It took about 30 minutes to pass by. After lunch we drove out to Lake Jasper which is huge and has a beach. Then on to Maligne canyon..... I know its all mountains, lakes ...

1st October. Left lake Louise to drive the 230 kms to Jasper. The road is the Icefield parkway. It seems to go on for ever and at this time of the year its pretty deserted. The journey takes a long time because there is so much to see along the way. First stop was Bow lake and Glacier then on to Peyto Lake. This is a brilliant turqouise lake.
