We had been talking about today since before we left. The waterfalls at Foz do Iguacu. They are meant to be some of the most spectacular in the world. The falls stretch across Brazil and Argentina and feed the river that defines the border.
We are staying on the Brazilian side but today we are visiting the Argentine side. Don't mention the hand of god or the Falklands......I did but I think I got away with it!!
Ok after brekkie it's off to the bus stop opposite McDonalds...I know I know.
Hop on the bus, very cheap. It's a short drive to the border and its all off for passport control. The bus doesn't wait so it's a half hour in the baking sun for the next bus. Still you don't have to pay again.
However you do only drive 400 yards when you get off and go through the Argentine border control. This time the bus waits and then it's off to the national park.
We bought our entry ticket and set off on the trail. Not too crowded thankfully. You hear the falls long before you see them. But when you see them......Wow. They are amazing, spectacular, deafening and quite beautiful. Nature does it again. Christo redentor, amazing structure. Sao Paulo cathedral, amazing architecture. But the falls are something else. We spent nearly 4 hours viewing them from every possible angle. We even took a boat across to an island to get a close up.
Sorry if the pics are a bit repetitive. Too be honest they can't really do them justice.
As an aside I've added two new people to my 'up against the wall' list. First is the person who interrupts me while I'm using my expensive Nikon and asks if I can take a picture of him and his unattractive girlfriend. He then hands me a crap pocket camera which his granny bought him for the trip. He then proceeds to tell me how to frame it, to ensure I get the falls in and not to point into the sun. Guess what he got?!
The next is the guy who interrupts me and hands me a £3000 camera to take a picture of him and his even more unattractive wife. I've set it all up he says you just need to push the button. I oblige and the photo is s***, as I knew it would be. Would you like me to take a decent picture I enquire? Oh Ok he says.
When I hand it back he says how did you do that? Well it's simple. First you set the aperture, then you meter to get your shutter speed, then you add a little fill flash to compensate for the light/dark. Simples. Now F*** off and stop bothering me.
Why don't they just give me their expensive camera or at least learn to use it?!!!!!
Rant over. Going home was the reverse of getting there. On, off, on, off etc etc.
A fabulous day. Probably the best of the trip so far. Tomorrow we are going to view the falls from the Brazilian side. Then it's a long bus trip to Florianopolis which is a surfers paradise. We are going to have a few days doing nothing......cool.
