Im writing this from the Hangzhou airport, because i arrived here a hour too early and now got time to kill in not so ice airport. So my short visit to china is has come to a end. I ended up staying i beijing for a over a week ad then flying straight to hangzhou, and skipped shanghai alltogether, which was mostly out of sheer lazyness and i kind of regret now. Hangzhou was pleasent enough but dont have too much to say about it, spent most of my time reading (red a whole book just yesterday) and cycling aroud the west lake which is the major attraction in here. The weather was lovely compered to Beijing, the spring is already present in all its blooming flowers and just sitting by the lake on a bench eating icecream felt good after the long cold winter. Now i just have a problem with all my warm clothes i needed for beijing, because my backpack is so heavy and in few hours i will be dragging it in the tropics!! Gangzhou was very touristy, but only full of chinese tourist, and people were be taking pictures of me in a sneaky way and get embarrased when i look at them.
I have to say that chinese are sometimes almost oppresively hospitable, and people have been so nice to me that sometimes i would just want to hide behind my book for some lone time. On the flight to hangzhou i started talking with two guys and after chatting for few hours, and hearig their amazemet of a 24 year old girl traveling alone around the world instead of looking for a huspand and job at home i suddenly found myself with my own room in four star hotel of a guy sitting next to me on the plane, for no charge. I was sure that this guy would be trying something with me so first felt akward about it, but i didnt even hear from him after he send me to his hotel, instead yesterday night a female friend of his called me to take me for a dinner to a japanese restaurant, and had great time drinking and chatting with her. Either chinese people are super kind or i have the best travel karma in the world which is possible too :) In my last days in beijing i went to visit the university area with a friend of mine who teaches there, and a friend of hes from the uni, a very nice albanian guy who is a grad student there took me to the summer palace thats nearby, one of beijings most important historical sights. I also spent an afternoon in a chinese spa which was nothing like i expected, worth the try though. The will bathe you, scrub you, massage you, put you in a sauna and then feed u full, all in relaxing oriental style spa surraundings with all the perks- for 15 euros. Going out in a club called punk on friday night i was lucky enough to meet a really cool american guy who has been living in china for a while, and moved from the business district to hes lovely place in a hutong for my last days, and got to see a totally different side of beijing. I went to a picnic in a park with him ad his friends and catched my first warm rays of sunshine- sweet. He was phographing some beijing indie rock bands for his book, and i got to and listen to few with him on saturday night ad had so much fun and really enjoyd the music, and sunday just hang out, i did go to see one temple but most of my day was totally useless, had a great brunch (a cheese bacon burger followed by a delicious hot chocolate brownie- am guilty as charged), and just lazed and watched movies.Oh and after a lot of drinking and general crazyness on the weekend i succeeded to hurt my lip and looked like a scary female boxer for a few days. Gourgeus as you can imagine... Will get back to you from Philippines, am now flying to Kuala Lumpur but will just spend there merely a day on my way to Boracay via Manila. My only ambition for KL is to eat as much good indian food as i can in 30 hours- will get back to you with the results!!- comments
