We spent the first part of the day finishing off seeing the sites of Amman - there aren't that many. We woke up to the delight of only tepid water from a broken shower - didn't check this out when we checked in to the hotel. It was still freezing so it was a very quick shower, breakfast and out. We said goodbye to Ken & Judi this morning. They left to go down to Aqaba, then through Israel (Eilat) and into Egypt (Taba) before going down to Dahab and relative luxury. We were off on the bus to Karak to see the crusader castle. We arrived at the bus station to find there was no bus to Karak (we thought this may be the case) so hopped on the bus to Amman. We had a chance to have a quick look round Aqaba before we left. We could see Israel quite clearly across the bay. Our first impressions of Jordan are positive - it is modern, more developed with less poverty than Egypt but it is definitely more expensive. The end of the holiday and back on the road. We were up for a 7:30 breakfast and 8:00 Taxi to Nuwebia. Plan was to go Petra via ferry from Nuwebia to Aqaba (we needed to miss out Israel to ensure we are allowed into Syria). I wanted to go back to Cairo as the FCO travel restrictions had now been lifted but the rest of the group revolted and said stick to the original plan. I relented.
