Peter supported by the fantastic team of the Hotel Vitale, my favourite place in San Francisco, made my birthday an unforgettable day! SMy day started with a run on the Embarcadero, buying coffee, croissants and joghurtfor our în room breakfast at the Farmer's market on the Ferry building's parking. San Francisco, our final destination . . . SFO warmly welcomed us with 3 perfect days with bright nice sunshine every day, relatively warm temperatures and loads to do. . .

. . . were picked up at 1:55 am to drive up to the Haleakalà Vulcano National Park (altitude about 3000m above sea level). When we arrived at the peak around 5:00am, it was still pitch black, very windy and bloody cold, despite our Patagonia down jackets, hats and gloves we were freezing. . . but the next 90 minutes compensated for our courage to get up sooo early and standing the wind and we were (with at least 150 Janapese, some Swedes and lots of Amercians) ...

besides watching the sun rise, the plan was to ride bicycles from the vulcano down the beach, a 40 km downhill only ride. All equipment bikes as well as full protection helmets were provided.
