I loved Paris, but it was completely different to Amsterdam! I got on my first ever Busabout bus and made the 8 hour journey into the craziest city i've ever seen.... I found my hostel 'The flying pig, downtown' and as soon as i walked through the doors i saw loads of people smoking weed, drinking, playing pool, dancing, it was the party place for sure!
I headed out to explore a bit, the streets are full of coffee shops, which don't sell just coffee but any type of weed you want, a massive pre rolled joint an a coffee was only $7 euros! There were street performers everywhere and shady African guys who would yell out from every corner, trying to sell some kind of dodgy drug, i heard they sold cotton wool or talcome power as coke or MDMA and ripped tourists off. The shops were crazy, inbetween all the normal clothes stores were mushroom shop and sex shops and windows lined with every type of bong you could imagine. It was so colourful, old historic buildings everywhere and streets full of graffiti and packed with bikes! It was almost scary walking around because there were thousands of people whizzing past on bikes - In Amsterdam there are about 600,000 people and over 1 million bikes! There's more than people haha :)
After exploring the crazy interesting streets i headed back to the hostel and instantly met a group of awesome people! We stayed in and partied together all night. The next day we went exploring Vondal park and sat around the rivers watching all the boats float past, it was stunning. This city was so full of life and everyone was happy and friendly :) I headed back and slept for about 14 hours because the night was so big, and i woke up hearing all about the fun night i missed out on :(
The night started early again and beer was flowing. After partying a while at the hostel we headed into the red light district..... I have never seen anything more insane in my life! The streets were lined with buildings and up about 5 floors on each were little red windows about the size of a normal front door. Every window was glowing deep red and there was a girl in each one strutting their stuff in skimpy underwear, each street had different types of girls, one street was full of big black girls, old and young, other street's had Asian girls, white girls, old ones, big ones, little ones, tall, short, every kind of girl you could imagine was there and free for the picking from any desperate guy who wanted to sleep with them for a pretty penny. Some girls were themed as office girls, barbie dolls jumping around waving and acting really ditsy, they all had little rooms with a stool in the window that they sat on like dolls in a toy shop, and a small bed behind them... If the curtain was drawn you knew they were busy! We sat on the river which flowed red down the centre, reflecting the red lights shining out from the windows, it was insane and so interesting at the same time. We found a funky bar and eventually headed back home to spend the night there.
The soccer was on the next night which was massive in Amsterdam as the Netherlands were playing Argentina for the world cup, everyone was in orange and the whole city was going crazy with hype over their country winning. I watched the game amongst hundreds of cheering fans - they lost the game though so when we headed out after the city was deserted - everyone was devastated! So it turned into another hostel party an a few games of pool - which i won most of because the pool balls are about double the size then at home so they were so easy to sink!
On my last night most of the group i was with left to go to berlin, i met a few new people who refused to let me go to bed, because it was my last night... I hadn't been to any night clubs yet so we all went across town to the club district that was packed with all different types of clubs, we ended up at one that was so packed we couldn't breath so we found another one which had a live jazz band an a DJ, it was so cool, everyone danced on the stage around the band and we ended up having a massive dance off which was so funny, there are some wicked dances there! Once it closed up at 5am we headed back home but it was a long walk, this African guy pulled up next to us an offered us his bike for $10 euros haha so we bought it an doubled each other home, so so funny there were a few crashes!
I didn't have much time to sleep, just a quick nap, pack an shower then had to head straight to the bus and onto my next big adventure......... PRAGUE!
