Our bus ride from Siem reap to Bangkok ended up not being too bad. Although just like we figured we ended up in a van rather than coach bus after the border. The van was pretty squishy and hot but at least it had AC and no locals this time haha.
As we drive into the city it is very modern almost with a New York kind of feel. We get dropped of at some area so we have no real idea where we are or how to get to our hotel but as we stood there wondering which way to go we only kept getting bothered with over priced taxis wanting to charge way to much. We knew it didn't matter where we were in the city it shouldn't cost more than $10.
Finally found a decent tuk tuk driver to bring us to our hotel which we booked in the bar area --- so we thought. Oh we were in the bar area alright! It's called the red light district. Haha. Full of prostitutes , strip clubs , lady boys and more !! Quite entertaining to say the least. As we ventured out we figured what the heck let's join the craziness. Went to 7 Eleven picked up some cheap beers to get our night started and headed to the " bar area ". We had never seen such craziness. It's basically a male dominated area so Michelle felt a bit out of place but it was actually pretty fun. The movie "the hangover" really could actually happen here and probably does several times a week lol.
It was a Monday night and you never would've thought it that's for sure !! We couldn't believe how much the lady boys actually looked like women. Asians naturally have very petite bodies so it makes it pretty hard to tell actually lol. Then you wonder if some of these old men even know what they're getting themselves into.
On our second day we explored the sky train as its pretty effective way of travel it's great. Went to checkout the backpacker area that we thought we booked our hotel in and actually decided we like our area better. Even though its a red light area it's very safe and lots if shopping etc.
Going from Cambodia to Bangkok was a bigger change than we thought it would be. As Cambodia is still striving to improve itself as it is so so poor and Thailand has never had any wars so that is probably why it has built up a lot more. Bangkok is beautiful with a big city feel but with a lot of character.
Ty and I are both currently trying to get over a stomach bug so weve been taking it easy. We're on our way to chiang Mai next where we will be working with the elephants were super excited.
