The Waltons On Tour
Well we survived the 15 hour bus journey to Foz Do Iguacu (or Foz as we?ve been calling it). It went surprising quickly - we started at 2 in the afternoon and arrived at 5 in the morning although we didn?t get much sleep. We saw a really fierce lightening storm in the distance at one point which lit up the sky for miles around. It was amazing and kept us entertained for a while - not when we had to drive through it though, our eyes began to hurt from the severe flashes. We?re staying in yet another lovely hostel - hammocks, swimming pool and an outside kitchen being the best parts! There?s also a hyperactive kitten called Clifford!! Iguassa Falls are split into two, a Brazilian side and an Argentinian side. On Sunday we visited the Brazilian side which gave an overview of the falls. We started on the walk seeing smallish falls and lots of wildlife so we weren?t really prep?d when we turned a corner and were faced with the Devil?s Throat and gorge. It was absolutely enormous and there was so much water. Apparently there?s not much water at the moment as it?s the dry season but as the pictures show, it hardly matters! We went on a walkway to the edge of the gorge and got soaked with spray. It was really refreshing though as the weather is pretty hot. Today (Monday) we went with a guide to the Argentinian side which gives a much closer encounter with the falls. We were literally on top of the Devil?s Throat and were left speechless by the sight; it really is indescribable. We did some treks through the jungle and saw hoards of butterflies, a turtle and a camen. We also went to see the place where the river separates the three countries. You can see Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay. On the way back to Brazil we all had to get out of the minibus and wipe our feet on a mat to disinfect them (think Argentina has a kind of foot and mouth problem). Not sure how much good it did but it was quite amusing. I?m (S) having major problems with the sun at the moment - my face is permanently burnt. No matter how much suncream I use I have a tomato nose. I?ve been assured that the weather will be getting much hotter soon as they move into summer so I may be stuck with it for some time. Today gave us an appitite for some more wildlife so we?re moving on tomorrow to Compo Grande in the Pantanal. Hope we don?t get eaten by anything. Keep the messages coming in, it?s great to hear what?s going on at home! xx p.s. excuse the bad speeling and grammer, we always have to type in a rush so can?t do mcuh checking!
