We are smitten...Slovenia is AMAZING!
With an abundance of natural beauty, friendly locals, and cheap drinks, Slovenia has completely charmed us.
We spent a fabulous week traveling this small country, first landing in the capital city of Ljubljana by bus. After a day of seeing the city sights, we were ready to see the countryside. We rented our first car of the trip, an Opel Astra. Very nice ride, and it was great to have some freedom. So off to Lake Bled we went, an idyllic enclave that has served as a haven for vacationing Europeans for years.
Lake Bled has (of course) a castle! So we climbed it:) See our pics.
What was cool about this castle was a museum that featured skeletons of people that lived there in the 9th century. It seems that a common theme is - humans find a desirable place to live, other humans fight them for it, then kings, queens and churches get involved, and so a castle is erected.
We visited two waterfalls in Slovenia- one was spectacular,; one was not. But they were both great exercise! The one that was over the top was a complete sensory experience- you felt the mist, heard the thunderous clap of power, and saw beauty that touched the place that doesn't often get touched.
After one of our waterfall visits, we caught the last cablecar up to Mt.
Vogel. We were completely unprepared for the magesty. We flew up the mountain in a matter of moments and the views left us (almost) speechless.
